Jay-Turner's News

Posted by Jay-Turner - October 27th, 2014

So having started back at uni again my music productivity has gone down. But between having a job, being a volunteer RA and my dissertation I'm trying my best!

None the less albeit my lack of activity I'm still playing guitar, experimenting with recording and writing music. I hope to post something soon :)

Well I was lucky enough to make to round 2 of NGADM'14. My submission for round two is here:-

I tried to create something more thematic this time... I think to that end I succeeded, it does have repeating melodies. However I am on the whole dissatisfied with this piece. I feel like my music for round 1 (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/585261) was much more interesting to listen to, frankly I think my round 2 piece is very boring!

It lacks dynamics, its very slow and nothing much happens. I wouldn't have posted it if it were not for it being in a competition, but its a learning curve. Also I'm not too happy with my VSTs this time, I really wanted a woodwind section sound but I've had to use single sample instruments as I don't have a package for woodwind sections. It ended up sounding a bit wierd, almost too reverby (yet it sounds dead with less).

So, I'm not too hopeful this round D: ... but I will see if the judges concur with my own criticisms.

I've been working hard on my composition for round one of NGADM '14 and finally finished it (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/585261)!

This is how it looks in the DAW. I call it my 'mess'ter piece :D

I have a couple more projects to finish up on and then I'm going back to Uni so I look forward to see if I make the next round of NGADM '14 and I wish all the best to the other competitors.

I've been pretty busy with exams since the A.I.M. competition so have been inactive, but I've started writing (and plan on writing a lot more) material over the summer and here is my latest piece : -

I purchased Zebra 2.5 (modular synth) the other week so this is my first piece experimenting with using it so I hope you enjoy.
